Flacon is a bistro-style restaurant located in Nivelles Belgium. The tagline “eat well, drink well” is a direct reflection of what Flacon has to offer: high quality food with a real research on the ingredients and a curated selection of specialty wines.
With a desire to be accessible, the owner, Pierre, wanted a simple & minimal approach to his branding. The result was a clean and functional aesthetic comprising of a sans serif logotype (using Cabinet Grotesk) and contrasting quirky, handdrawn illustrations representing his offer.
The nature of this project sheds light on a key aspect of branding; flexibility.
One of the many benefits of keeping things minimal is the legroom you have to play around with your elements. Here, the illustrations can work as small, bunched up elements or be blown up in scale individually, forming almost abstract shapes, giving Flacon two distinct ways of express itself.
The logo can be scaled up or down to decent sizes, the pretty average size of the letters’ counters and ascendants give the word a very recognisable shape at smaller scales. Cabinet Grotesk also features a sort of “pinched” aspect to the stroke connections giving the simple sans serif a more elevated look. A response to the restaurant wanting to offer higher quality food to a more normie—for lack of a better word—clientele of the town it’s located in.
